Proverbs 6:9-12 (NIV)
How long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When will you get up from your sleep?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.
Proverbs 9:9-12 (KJV)
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
When was the last time doing nothing got you some where? When was the last time doing nothing got you any thing but laziness? When was the last time laziness got you any where?
If you want to get fit, you work out. If you want a promotion at work, you work extra hard. If you want to strengthen your relationship with your friends, you spend more time with them. If you want to write a blog post, you start writing. Whatever it is we want, we have to work towards achieving that goal.
Our wants/desires, become satisfied by our works.
Now, concerning Christians and our relationships with Christ, do you want Christ? If you do, what are you doing to achieve your desire? A bolder question, if you are doing nothing to increase your relationship with Christ, is He really what you desire? Think about that. How often do you truly want/desire some thing, but not work to achieve your desire? My guess is, when you want some thing, you do what you need to do to achieve it.
Lets think about our relationships with one another. Lets go further, and some of you may have to think back in time about this one. Think about some one that you like like(d), some one you want(ed) to further your relationship with. What do(did) you do? Stalk(ed) them? Attempt(ed) to get to know everything you can about this person? Tr(y)(ied) to talk to this person as much as possible? Tr(y)(ied) to be with this person as much as possible? Lik(ed) their likes? The point is, you work(ed) extra hard to become closer to this person.
What are you doing for your relationship with Christ? If nothing, is your heart truly in the right place? Where does God really rank in your heart? What can you do to strengthen your relationship with God?
For the rest of the week, and further, I would like to challenge you to take one extra step of action towards Christ. What is tugging at your heart to do for Him? Whatever it may be, I challenge you again to do it.
