Just (Insert Verb Here) It

Proverbs 4:7-9 (NIV)

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get[a] wisdom.
Though it cost all you have,[b] get understanding.
Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honor you.
She will give you a garland to grace your head
and present you with a glorious crown. ”

Proverbs 4:7-9 (KJV)

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Interesting to note “get.” In the first few chapters Solomon has told us to “get,” “search,” “seek,” “listen,” “call out,” “cry aloud,” “look,” and to “walk.” All these are verbs, they are actions required by our part. Then when we do our action, the Lord provides for us. This isn’t saying that with every action you take, God will follow it with a reaction, in other words, when we do good God does good to us, and when we do bad God will do bad to us. What I am saying is don’t be lazy. Don’t sit back and think God will always take care of you, that He will always provide for you, and etc. God warns us against being lazy.

As Christians it is far to easy to think, Gods got this I don’t need to worry, God will take care of this, and etc. Yes it is true that God can handle it all, but He isn’t a genie in a bottle. God wants us to take action. We aren’t putting tust in God when we sit back and say Hes got this, we put trust in God when we put forth action and trust that God will help us by providing for all the things that are out of our reach. If there is an action that can be taken within your reach, take it! If you run out of money, search for ways to gain more money and He will provide for you. If you break your foot, don’t assume God will just heal it, but go to the doctor and God will heal it through the doctor. If you want to loose weight, work out.

The point is, lets not be lazy. Lets not think God will do everything for us, if He did we would never have the opportunity to learn. Lets put trust in God that in whatever action we do, God will help us achieve it (as long as it’s God pleasing). You can’t win a race without completing in it. You’re not going to one day wake up being the next Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Vince Lombardi, Babe Ruth, David Beckham, Lance Armstrong, Al Pacino, and Will Smith over night, you’re not going to gain success by just saying I trust God will make me  successful. You gain success by hard work and determination and through your hard work God will be by your side and help you along the way.  As Nikes slogan says, “Just Do It.”

  1. It’s amazing how God aligns things. I’m working on a post for the 3:16 study about people being active. Take a look at 2 Kings 3 and what happens to the people who trusted God and prepared for His blessings! Amazing! Great post!
