Tonight, I got the great opportunity to re-watch one of my all time favorite movies, IP Man 2(Both IP Man 1, and 2 are in my top all time favorites). If you have never seen IP man, or even heard of it, I strongly recommend watching it; you can find it on Netflix. Make sure you don’t watch the version with english subtitles!
At the end of IP Man 2, IP man is quoted saying
“Although people have different status in life, everyone’s dignity is the same. respect each other.”
I really like this quote in the context of the movie. What IP man was getting at was, it doesn’t matter if you are poor or rich, doesn’t matter your race or gender, straight or gay, it doesn’t matter a persons physical appearance or ones personality, we all are human individuals and we all need respect. Far to often if someone is a little bit different than us, or if there is something we don’t like about someone, we don’t give them the respect they deserve. We might make ‘innocent’ jokes about them, we might look down on them, ignore them, be short with them, not giving them credit when deserved, not taking their opinion seriously, talk negatively about them , and etc. There are many more things we have done to make us feel superior to others and not given them respect.
Matthew 25:40, 45
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me[..] Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
Whatever we do, or don’t do, to others we do, or don’t do, to Jesus. Every negative thought you have, or action, they are all aimed at Jesus. A simple analogy, when we think “I really don’t like John Smith!” or “John Smith is such a jerk!” We are really saying “I really don’t like Jesus!” and “Jesus is such a jerk!” When thought of this way, it completely changes the situation.
Instead of giving a clear wrap up, I want to leave it here and have you think it out and wrap it up in your thoughts.
Who have you shown disrespect to, weather it being just in your head or outwardly?
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Memory Verse of the Week:
He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built
