Poor but Rich

I believe there is something wrong with Americans (like myself) and that is we have to much money. We are trying to buy happiness with our money. However if we look at the poorest people in the world, they seem to be the happiness. How? If you look deeper into their lives you will notice that yes they don’t have money or any material possessions, but the thing they do have is Jesus. When all you have is Jesus, when everyday you must rely on Him, not knowing what is going to happen, it’s one of the greatest blessings you can receive. To many of us can’t put that kind of faith into God. We are scared. We like to make plans, and stick to these plans, relying on our own knowledge. We shy away from doing anything that revolves complete trust in God. We all know these verses:

Philippians 4:13

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Matthew 6:25-34

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

 Mark 12:44

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Psalm 118:8

It is better to trust in The Lord than to put confidence in man

What these verses have in common is we have nothing to worry about. We must put our trust in God and He will be with us. We must give Him our all. It is very difficult to be able to surrender everything to Jesus. We feel like we must control our lives. It is hard to give up control without knowing what is going to happen. Jesus died for us and gave us everything. He went through hell for us. Plus the He created the Universe, the Heavens and everything in it. He loves us perfectly and has complete power. There is no reason not to trust Him. Sometimes we must just stop, and give Him everything.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Isaiah 2:22

Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?

Jeremiah 17:5

This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.
