Stop it!

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Before today, I never realized this was a bible verse, Tim Tebow posted it to facebook today. However it is something I have held close to the past few months of my life. As christians we need to put Christ first in our lives. Anything that puts itself between you and Christ is dangerous to your spiritual health. Sometimes that can be take place in relationships of all kinds. Maybe its a group of friends who like to do things that you know doesn’t exactly please the Lord. It could be a tv show you watch that makes you more accustom to the sins of the world, making you more tolerate towards them. Whatever it is, we need to put it away. Christ gave us everything, we should be seeking Him above our earthly desires. Not only is it good for your own spiritual health to be putting everything aside for the Lord, it is also good for the “great cloud of witnesses.” Whether you like it or not, there are always people looking up to you and wanting to be like you. So if you are seen doing things that pushes Christ to the side, they will follow.

Matthew 6:21

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Jesus needs to be our treasure and to do that we need to get ride of all our distractions. I heard a simple analogy once about how we can think about these distractions. It goes kind of like this:

A man puts a child in a room at a table. On the table he puts one oreo. He tells the child He will be back at some point and that the child can eat the oreo whenever he wants. However, if the child waits untill the man comes back he can have all the oreaos he wants as long as he did not eat that one oreo.

In this story this man is God, we are the child, the oreo is the distractions that seem so good to us, and the reward in the end is Heaven. I think you get the point of this story(if not comments are welcomed).

Matthew 10:22

You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Jesus promises that this life isn’t going to be easy. Many people are going to be against you, and you WILL have MANY hardships in life, but if we keep our eyes on Jesus and stand firm, we will be saved in the end! An eternity with the Lord whom I love, is definitely worth anything to me!
