John replied, “No one can receive anything unless God gives it from heaven. You yourselves know how plainly I told you, ‘I am not the Messiah. I am only here to prepare the way for him.’ It is the bridegroom who marries the bride, and the best man is simply glad to stand with him and hear his vows. Therefore, I am filled with joy at his success. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
I love this set of verses! John points out the role of us that we should be fulfilling everyday, and that is to prepare the way for Him. Our lives should point to Jesus in everyday. In order to do this, He must become greater, and I must become less. We must allow Jesus to take over our life. With Him in control we have nothing to be afraid of.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him..
We need to learn to completely trust in Him, He will always take care of us.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[f] a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
All the Lord asks is that we seek Him first, and prepare the way for Him as John the Baptist did.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
